Rat Takes Over Alaska Airlines Flight

Seattle, WA - On 12 February 2011, an Alaska Airlines Seattle, WA. to Denver, CO. flight was delayed, when a rat was seen scurrying through the cabin moments before take-off.

According to the airlines spokesman Bobbie Egan, the 737 flight had just pulled away from the gate when it was forced to return, deboard the passangers and crew, which boarded another plane 90 minutes later. The plane will be checked out for possible chew damage to wires and hardware, before being returned to service.

It is not unusual for wild rats to seek warm areas during the cold winters.

Alaska Airlines is not expected to begin rat friendly flights for some time, though the rat was attempting to find it's seat, as the captain had turned on the fasten seatbelt sign.

The TSA is not expected to press charges against the rat for the delays.

Make This The Year Of The Rat

Though this isn't the Chinese Year of the Rat, by spreading the word about the positive nature of domesticated rats, we can make this and every year one!

Some methods to spread the word about how great rats are as pets include, talking with your local vets and pet shops about dropping off membership information from local rat organizations, becoming active in the various rat events, adding a link in emails to interesting rat positive sites, making a presentation to a local school, or organization about rats and the list goes on.

The options are only limited by your imagination.

So, take this year and every year to spread the word about the wonderful world of rats and lets get them on the 'must have' list as the greatest pet ever!

Ratastic Celebrates First Month Online

Ratastic, the new online resource and review site for all things rat lover related,  celebrated its 1 month anniversary December 8th. After coming online the 8th of November 2010, it quickly built up a following around the world, drawing support from 16 countries in the way of nearly 4000 hits, hundreds of emails and recommended by hundreds as the Fancy Rat website that you had to visit.

"We weren't expecting such a welcome in our first month!" Stated the creator of Ratastic. "It is rather overwhelming to know that rat lovers around the world are so eager for our success and coming out of the woodwork like rats, pardon the pun , to support our efforts. We were actually expecting to have more time to get a lot more content onto the site before seeing such a response. It is our amazing visitors that have created this drive of people to Ratastic and we will continue to work to improve the site and make it truly the hub for all things rat related."

Already reaching out to various organizations, like the Humane Society, to help spread information on rat related concerns, including a recent mass hoarding case, the creator of Ratastic stated, "To those of us here at Ratastic, it is about improve the lives of rats all over the world through education and a better understanding of how truly amazing rats are. We are doing this because of our love of the rat. Some may find that weird, but if they take the time to learn about rats, they will start to understand what we are working towards."

With 2011 just around the corner the creator of Ratastic was asked, "Why now?"

"The better question is, why not before now?

Rats, in their ancestral forms, have been with mankind for thousands of years. Involved in nearly every point of our history. Blamed for things that they were not at fault for, such as the Plague that wiped out a good chunk of the population of Europe, and because of misinformation, cursed by people around the world. It is only now that mankind is starting to truly understand how amazing the rat is.

Even the scientists that use rats as study animals in labs are now ending up taking them home as pets. In fact some of the first pet rats were kept by people hired to kill them. That was a couple hundred years ago and it is only now that we are seeing an active growth in the rat becoming a common pet.

It is up to all of us to take the time to understand and teach others how amazing the rat truly is. Not the dirty disgusting creature with the freaky tail, but rather the caring, loving pet, that eagerly awaits the time you spend with it.

Ratastic expects to see a massive growth in the next few years of rats as pets, especially with the downturned economy, people who are looking for more affordable pets.

It is up to all of us to make their lives better. Ratastic is working to do that."

Rattery Pages Now Open!

In an effort to provide the best for rats, Ratastic has opened the Rattery Pages. Included are lists of both good ratteries that look out for the welfare of the rat and questionable ratteries that have reports of serious problems throughout the world, as well as a list of ones that visitors would like more information on. You can find them located under the Adoption area and look to the left.

With animal abuse so prevalant in our world, Ratastic is taking a stand against abuse of rats. Working with people from around the world, postings of both good and bad ratteries will be added to the Rattery Pages in an effort to stem the flow of rat mills and questionable care practices, to outright abuse of rats.

If you know of a great rattery please send in your testimonial of your dealings with them. The same goes for a bad one.

It is up to all of us to stop animal abuse in all forms!

Holiday Adoptions!

Ratastic has already started successful matching adoptees to adopters and would like to help you too!

Also as a member you will have the opportunity to adopt one of the wonderful rats that are shown there, or list a request for a particular type of rat so that others can contact you if they know of one looking for a good hom!

By simply signing up for the newsletter, to the left, you automatically receive a 1-year free membership. This helps screen out potential adoption issues and helps promise the rat a long and happy life with a loving family.
